For our Lenten half-day retreat this year, we are extremely fortunate to have Father Julio Martinez, OFM, Conv., as our spiritual director. Fr. Julio directed our 2014 Parish Retreat. Now, he will lead us to continue our study of Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si by providing a uniquely Franciscan perspective on caring for all of creation, which emphasizes the need for action now to address the unmitigated harm to the Earth and its inhabitants, especially the poor. Also in keeping with our Lenten theme “Reflecting God’s Mercy,” Father Julio will outline Misericordiae Vultus. In this declaration opening the current Year of Mercy, Pope Francis calls all of us to contemplate and seek the unbelievable gift of God’s mercy.

Our program will begin with a continental breakfast and the start of our day of reflection with song.  Then Father Julio will provide two presentations, each followed by a period of reflection when we will have an opportunity to nourish our spirituality in the quiet of the beautiful surroundings of the Shrine of St. Anthony. And there will be an opportunity to attend Mass at the Shrine immediately following the retreat.
