The goal of the Education Committee at St.
Vincent’s is to provide the opportunity for all parishioners -
adults, teens, and children - to learn about their faith, to
develop a greater understanding of what it means to be a
Catholic, and to further spiritual growth. The Committee works
in tandem with the Director of Religious Education for Children,
Anne Gibson, and the Director of Education for Adults, Anne
Maura English.
The children’s formation includes preschool
to middle school years. They engage in a variety of programs -
during weekly liturgies, in monthly Saturday programs, and for a
week each summer for "Vacation Bible Camp." These classes
include sacramental preparation (Eucharist and Penance),
scripture study, liturgy, and instruction in the basic truths of
faith.
The teen program has recently blossomed at
St. Vincent as have the number of teens. The focus of teen
group is to deepen not only personal faith but also to
understand the role of each individual as part of the church
community and the world community.
For adults, the Education Committee
organizes discussion groups, workshops and the annual family
weekend retreat.
Although trained staff are involved in all
these activities, it is a tenet of the Education Committee that
one deepens one's faith by sharing it with others. Hence all of
these activities have strong parishioner components. Adults,
youth, and children share their faith and their life experiences
in training others.
Two important components of the education
program - “Together Sharing Christ” (the Packet) and the RCIA -
do not come directly under the auspices of the Education
Committee. These activities are directed by the DRE for Adults. |
