Children prepare for First Eucharist beginning at around age seven, usually second grade. They prepare over the course of one academic year, beginning in October and concluding with the celebration of First Eucharist in May amid the participation, blessings, and support of the congregation. The preparation, for the most part, is done during the Faith Fun Fellowship, our children’s formation program, which is after 9:30 Mass twice a month.
Parents and families are drawn into the preparations. The liturgy for the celebration of the children’s First Eucharist is planned by the children and their families. The kids create banners that are displayed during the Mass. And together with their families, most years the children bake the communion bread.
