Music
Music at St. Vincent's. St. Vincent's is a singing
parish. We sing with heart and gusto - to praise the Lord
and to pray. We unite our voices in song so that we are
united in spirit and so that we can pray more effectively
together than alone. The rich musical accompaniment at St.
Vincent is designed to support congregational singing. In
addition to our talented Music Director, who plays keyboards as
well as arranges and composes, we have professional Cantors/Song
Leaders at the two Sunday services. Other parishioners
volunteer their talents to express themselves in music.
This includes three percussionists, three guitarists, a base
guitarist, a flutist, and a clarinetist. A volunteer
flutist often enlivens the Saturday 7:15 service. The great
Allen electric organ, originally installed in 1941 by the
then-pastor, John Sinnott Martin, was recently refurbished with a
bequest from Joseph Organ, Sr., the father of our current Music
Director.
Choir at St. Vincent's. The purpose of the St.
Vincent adult choir is to enhance the choral sound and lead the
congregation in singing fully and jubilantly at liturgical
services. The choir occasionally offers a part motet for
meditative listening. The choir usually sings at the 9:30
service between September and May. It also sings at major feasts
including Christmas Midnight Mass and Holy Week Services. The
choir rehearses on Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:30 PM, in the
Parish Center Choir Room, third floor center. The choir is
directed by the St. Vincent Music Director, Joseph Organ, Jr.
