New Pastor Announced

As was announced at our weekend Liturgies April 26 and 27, the Archbishop has appointed Fr. Evan Ponton as the Administrator of our new parish, i.e. the union of St. Vincent’s and St. Leo’s. His appointment will be effective as of July 1, 2025. Since he is a first-time pastor, he is initially designated as Administrator and will later be titled our Pastor.
Here is a quick “bio” of our new Pastor:
Rev. Evan Ponton a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, is the Associate Pastor of St. Matthew parish and chaplain to the Baltimore City Fire Department. Previously, he served as chaplain of Archbishop Spalding High School and a lay staff member of Church of the Nativity in Timonium. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Baltimore by Archbishop Lori on August 22, 2020. He is a graduate of St. Mary’s Seminary and deeply loves ministry in the city. His interests include playing the bass, reading, gardening, and beekeeping! He is presently pursuing his doctorate in theology.
He has already begun to familiarize himself with our parish, e.g. reading the book of our history: “St. Vincent de Paul Church of Baltimore!” Over the coming weeks, he will become a participant in the important work of our Interparish Committee [IPC] and begin to meet and have conversations with the parish leadership here at St. Vincent’s and at St. Leo’s. He is looking forward to meeting all of his new parishioners!
A number of our parishioners and myself are already familiar with Fr. Evan. To a person, each has expressed their belief that he is a wonderful choice. I believe it would be fair to say his appointment has fostered a deepened sense of hope for our future.
